Who We Are
Dan Shields
Owner
Dan brings more than two decades of hands-on construction leadership to Mountain Country Builders, with experience spanning both residential and commercial projects. A graduate of the University of Colorado, Dan began his career as a carpenter in 2001 before advancing into superintendent and project management roles with several nationally recognized homebuilders. His background also includes custom home construction in Boulder, Colorado, as well as co-founding and operating Buildsmith LLC before ultimately launching Mountain Country Builders.
With deep field knowledge, long-term leadership experience, and a builder-first mindset, Dan delivers practical insight, strong coordination, and proven execution on every Mountain Country Builders project. He has built lasting relationships with trusted subcontractors, skilled tradespeople, designers, and architects—allowing him to assemble high-performing teams that uphold quality, communication, and accountability throughout each build.
In his free time, Dan enjoys time on the lake back home in Minnesota and getting out into the Colorado mountains with his kids.
Reid Ferguson, PE
Project Manager
Reid brings a unique blend of engineering, development, and ownership experience to Mountain Country Builders. He holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida and spent five years as a structural engineer in Colorado, designing buildings across the Front Range and abroad for a wide range of industries. He later worked as an acquisitions analyst for a residential developer, gaining hands-on experience with Denver-area zoning codes, development fees, and entitlement requirements. As an active real estate investor with multiple rental properties in Denver and the mountains, Reid understands projects from both the builder and owner perspectives. He combines these backgrounds to deliver well-coordinated, technically sound, and value-driven residential construction projects as a project manager.
When he’s not on the jobsite, Reid spends his time hiking, skiing, and fly fishing in the mountains or catching a game and trying new restaurants around Denver with friends and family.
